BEng (Mech, Hons1), MBA
Kim has more than 20 years of executive and consulting experience across a range of industry areas and public and private sectors. Originally a mechanical engineer, Kim has held executive marketing/strategy roles in significant corporates (NCL, EDS) and has extensive strategic management consulting experience (Andersen Consulting, Invetech, Capstone Partners). Kim has also established and developed new businesses.
Kim’s broad industry experience gives him a good general understanding of most business segments from both a commercial and technical perspective. He can quickly determine the business and technical fundamentals of any new concept or organisation to which he is introduced. Kim has proved on many occasions that he has the imagination to think laterally and uncover unique opportunities for new or mature organisations to move ahead in their market or to improve their operational efficiency. Kim’s key strength stems from his ability to clearly understand the “big picture”. For this reason, nearly all of his executive role descriptions have included ownership of corporate strategy.
The combination of management consulting and executive management has given Kim the strengths of strategic leadership and the desire to propose and implement change. Kim has engineered the “strategic repositioning” of the companies for which he has worked and seen the subsequent improvement in their performance. His ability to manage teams of professionals to develop and implement business, technical or sales/marketing strategies can be well demonstrated.
The last decade has seen Kim heavily involved in the commercialisation of new technologies through the development of “start-up” businesses. He has experienced the “idea-to-market” process first hand both as equity participant and consultant / mentor. As a result, he is well qualified to assess the merit of new concepts, and advise on how to bring them to market in a way that maximises the value for the stakeholders in new IP.
