International News (Issue 360) – 17 July 2015

On the foreign front as in the Australian News (Issue 360), it was all about Greece.

However, in the US this week we had the Fed Governor Janet Yellen present to Congress, at which we learned that US interest rates were certainly lined up to be rising before the year is out. Expectations seem firmly entrenched for a September rate hike, and I would see that as likely.

Also of importance, is the commencement of June quarterly earnings season. Thus far earnings look quite solid across the major banks and tech names to have reported. Google (GOOG) was perhaps the weeks standout performer, jumping 8% in after hours trade Thursday after a stellar set of profit figures.

I’ll leave it at that this week. Do please shout out if I or anyone else on the investment committee can be of assistance.
